The picture in this post will make you laugh...

The last thing I should be doing right now is blogging, so I'm going to make this short and sweet. We had a client a few days ago who came in with his 13 year old son who he recently gained custody of and had nowhere to stay. We called every shelter and finally resorted to walking over to Covenant, who had an extra bed. Though this was a fabulous happening, our client came in a few hours later saying he had an apartment! Yes, you read that correctly, after frantically trying to find a shelter for them, they found an apartment.

Yesterday we spent the day in New Haven at Yale New Haven hospital for 2 doctor's appointments. The second appointment was supposed to be at 3:30 pm, but we were told that if we got there early, they could take him early. We got there at 2:30pm, they didn't take him until 4:45pm. We got back into New London at about 7:00pm. Do I seem like I'm rushing through this story? Most likely because I'm very unhappy about a day being extended about 3-4 hours longer than it should have been for 3 people. Well there are about 2 good things about it all, the secretary from the Diagnostic Radiology desk was super nice and compassionate, she seemed like she actually cared about how patients were doing after they left the office. She paid attention to each patient, observing her with everyone was really nice to see, especially after being so disappointed with the character of others in the medical department that day. Another good thing...the chili in the cafeteria was great (yeah, Sodexo!).

So here we are, huh? Irene is on her way, I'm debating whether to stay here or go stay at my dad's for the weekend in Tolland County. Of course I did my hurricane shopping, so that may have been pointless. The shelter will stay open all day Sunday for the safety of our clients, we are stocked with the necessary basics to keep everyone as safe and healthy as possible. We also had to cancel our volunteers (sorry PCU Mississippi, I was really looking forward to seeing you guys again too.)

Figure 1.

Last point, when the state of Connecticut is expecting a storm, the consumption of water increases by about 675%. Refer to Figure 1, which displays an example of what the water aisle in a Waterford, CT grocery store looks like 4 days before a hurricane.
